Miya – Feedback on Level 2 Workshop (2025)

Dear Vishal,

I kept putting off writing this for one obvious reason: I’m certain I can’t do justice in words to what the workshop has meant to me.

When you are young, you think there will come a teacher who unknowingly becomes a mentor to you, someone you look up to for the rest of your life. Like many, I found that teacher in you. You often say this is the honeymoon period for us kids, but after the workshop I have hoped/ prayed that I get to keep you in my life for a long time. And anytime I can do anything that makes your life happier or better, I hope I am able to.

You are a wonderful, wonderful teacher. In my list of your superpowers as a teacher, I’ll start with the one that takes us all by awe the first time we realise it: your ability to just read each one of us. In the second week of L1, you went around the class and told us one by one what we are getting right and what is stopping us. At that moment, I felt you could see through our souls.

I have always been the student who sits in class but needs to go back home and learn by myself. But with you, I want to absorb everything you say. A lot of what you say about acting is something I’d never thought about before, and hearing it articulated so clearly really stays with me.

Through L1 and L2, one of my favourite times is when you show us movies in between classes. It has entirely changed the way I see the process behind movies.

The way you have our back always. How you just scoop in on audience interactions, saving comments from slightly going off, making sure the criticism is constructive, there is so much care in that and the skill to recognise the subtle changes in your students as a teacher.

I heard Venki say this once and it made my heart so full, and it will always stay with me. He said misfit is home for them, but we need to prepare them for the outside world. Thank you for building a community that truly tries to make this true. We are all lucky to be a part of it.

L2 really ignited a hunger in me to learn the craft. It has made me more ambitious. It has contributed a lot to the journey of understanding myself. L2 taught me how to understand any character I play: to connect with her, know her emotions, learn how she expresses, empathise with her actions. In the process, it gave me a framework to know myself better and try to be a little more understanding of others.

You have taught us so much. Like you said, I want to pick a few things at a time and learn to be better at them. But I’m grateful that you didn’t just teach and leave. You’ve left that door open for us to keep coming back for more and more.

I hope you have the best 2026 where all your wishes come true!

Lots of love and hugs,

Miya
